Excellent GCSE results for Abbey Grange students.
Abbey Grange students have yet again delivered an outstanding set of GCSE and BTEC results. In a year where grade boundaries were returned to 2019 Pre-Covid levels and zero dispensations were made to exams, our students have delivered an excellent performance opening doors for them to make the next step in their education. The significant majority of our students have gained a place at our Sixth Form and will be starting their A-Levels in September.
Year 11 students were still considerably affected by the Covid pandemic with much of their disruption felt during Y8 and Y9. This meant they have had to work incredibly hard to meet 2019 grade boundaries – so we’re proud to share that this cohort have beaten the performance of the 2019 cohort which is phenomenal!
93% of Abbey Grange students achieved a pass Grade 4 or higher in English at GCSE with 85% achieving a strong pass of a 5 or higher. Similarly, 83% of students achieved a Grade 4 in Maths.
Abbey students also bucked the national trend of a drop in the top grades, with a third of our grades being a Grade 7 or higher. There were 135 Grade 9s, nearly 300 Grade 8s and 331 Grade 7s showing that Abbey Grange students rate among the highest achievers in Leeds.
Principal, Simon Prinsep, said: “This year group were significantly affected right in the middle of their secondary education by the Covid pandemic. Although the academy delivered remote learning, nothing is as effective as a teacher in the classroom and these students, and staff, have had to work unbelievably hard to meet the return to 2019 standards. Not only have they succeeded, but they have achieved higher grades than those in 2019 and this is a testament to their hard work and the support of our amazing families. We are so proud of their achievements and delighted that so many of them are joining our Sixth Form. We wish them all the best on the next step of their education. Congratulations and well done.”
