You need to have English Language and Mathematics at Grade B. If you have studied a GCSE equivalent computing qualification you should have achieved at least a B grade. You should be fairly logical and enjoy solving problems. If you have a high level of ability in mathematics you may be considered for the course without a GCSE in Computing.
Our Computer Science specification is, above all else, relevant to the modern and changing world of computing. This new specification will:
Focus on programming, building on your GCSE Computing and emphasise the importance of computational thinking as a discipline.
Have an expanded maths focus, much of which will be embedded within the course.
Put computational thinking at its core, helping students to develop the skills to solve problems, design systems and understand human and machine intelligence.
Allow students to apply the academic principles learned in the classroom to real world systems in an exciting and engaging manner.
Give students a clear progression into higher education, as the course was designed after consultation with members of BCS, CAS and top universities.
This course is useful for students who may wish to study, or take up a career in Computing/ICT. The course is also useful if your intended degree is in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Business ICT/Management or Technology.
