Those who have enjoyed studying Science at GCSE (especially the practical aspects), who have Grade 5s or above in Triple or Trilogy Sciences, English and Maths.
This is an A level equivalent course completed over 2 years.
In year 1 Units 1 and 2 are completed.
Unit 1 is called Principles and Applications of Science, and comprises of a Biology, Chemistry unit that is assessed by examination at the end of the year.
Unit 2 is called Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques and is assessed through four assignments. 1 of which is a Physics investigation, 2 are Chemistry investigations and finally a self reflection task.
During Year 2 students study a further two modules.
Unit 3 is called Science Investigation Skills, and is assessed with a practical exam.
Unit 8 is called Physiology of Human Body Systems, and is assessed through three separate assignments.
The course is suitable for anyone who would like to take a broad approach to studying Science at GCE level rather than specialising in one area. Previous students have taken the course as a route into nursing and related work, as a foundation subject to access teacher training, or simply because they enjoy Science.
