There have been some changes made to the original published policy for admissions to Abbey Grange C of E Academy for September 2019 entry. This is as a result of a review of the policy by the Office of the Schools Adjudicator (OSA), in the light of the policy being perceived to be complex and therefore difficult for parents and carers to understand. The decision of the OSA and the determination it has made were only made known to us on 29th August and are legally binding on the academy, meaning that they have had to be implemented for the current admissions round. Therefore the admissions policy has certain differences to the original policy published on the academy’s website.
The policy remains one which uses faith as its main over-subscription criterion (the process by which places are allocated when the academy has more applicants than places); however there are now a reduced number of sub-categories within the main 3 faith categories; in particular, the “known to the church/place of worship” sub category has been removed, and residence within the deaneries of Diocese of Leeds has been moved to the tie break provision. The supplementary information form has been changed to reflect this.
We have therefore made the decision to write to any families who have already submitted applications for September 2019 entry to alert them to these changes, and to ask them to fill in the new supplementary information form. We apologise for the inconvenience, but want to ensure that all applications are filled out correctly in order to give each applicant the best chance possible of getting a place. Abbey Grange sixth form has 25 places available in Year 12 for external applicants, subject to entry requirements being met.
Applicants applying for 3 A Level courses should have at least 5 GCSEs (not including BTEC courses) at grade C or above and at least B in the subjects they wish to do or other related subjects. Applicants applying for 4 A Level courses should have at least 8 GCSEs (not including BTEC courses), all at grade B or above.
External applicants should apply through the Leeds Pathways website, with the log in details provided by their present school.
