The Numeracy date is seen by all students in Year 7 to Year 11 on a daily basis. Students from Abbey Grange and Lightcliffe Academy are encouraged to help produce these dates. Year 7 and Year 8 students now include the Numeracy date in their IMYC journal. All students gain access in form time to weekly Numeracy, Literacy or STEM activities. The Numeracy activities are linked to a ‘Mathematical Area’ or real life Numeracy. Numeracy Week is a cross curricular event for Key Stage 3 students. In 2016 the common theme was the EURO 2016 football competition. Numeracy Ambassadors (sixth formers) help in lessons on a regular basis. Mathopoly (Thursday lunchtime). At lunchtime students can play games and do puzzles. Mathletes (Tuesday lunchtime). Students are prepared for both individual and team challenges. Chess Club (Thursday lunchtime). Pi Day. Mathematics lessons contain problem solving, reasoning and fluency which enables students to gain a deeper understanding of interlinked topics. Every fortnight they will also be challenged with a mathematical problem which gives an opportunity to ‘think outside the box’.
